The European Union is planning to force MP3 player manufacturers to limit the maximum volume that can be played through their machines. According to a report issued by EU boffins, 10% of MP3 listeners risk permanent hearing loss by listening to loud music over 5 years. The plan is to not only prevent hearing loss but also to reduce the “nuisance” sounds of tinny earphone speakers to the public. The plan is to reduce the maximum volume from 100dB to 80dB.
